Q to Sonia - Did you notice that those CS/IT teachers in school who had background in mathematics in their own graduation were accepting Computational Thinking more easily than those without ? If the answer is yes, a follow-up question to the panel would be, what kind of policy can intervention be made in this regard if at all ?

Q for Prof. Jalote and maybe other panel members as well: What needs to be done by CS departments and maybe other departments to design effective courses for computing in other disciplines? What role can computing education researchers play in these efforts?
Venkatesh Kamat
06:42:48
@Jalote - Just like many of us learn English not to become professional writer on a similar line you seem to suggest Computer Education for all is not to make them Computer Professional. What is that you think we could teach these Non-CS Engg. students, Data Science?

Is there a mention in NEP to connect computing to general science and larger challenges that the 21st century students will face: identity, resources, climate and employment to name a few. Or is computing education directed to producing more raw material to the IT industry?

Q to all: All of you emphasized on teacher training. What would this training look like in terms of pedagogy and curriculum?
Jonaki Ghosh

Q for Prof. Ramanujam - How do you think CT should be integrated in Teacher Preparation programs, especially since NEP is talking about 4 year integrated B.Ed courses.

My question particularly to Pankaj, since he was one of those who was full praise for the policy. But what is the chance that even some part of it (like autonomy, multidisciplinary programs etc) will be implemented? Or implementable? The policy doesn’t seem to talk about this, and without that it may just be a wonderful document?

How about suggesting the mathematical aspects in art, music, language and even in games and sports (physics) rather than subjecting kids to the cruelty of teaching programming (Dijkstra). Both my daughters hated programming in school, and that's an indictment on what passes off as programming (in C++!) in school, not their lack of curiosity or intelligence.
